Sprint Cup Reminder

Just a reminder to all skaters that the 1st of the Sprint Cups in on at Erina this weekend, Saturday the 28th. Registration is at 5pm in the Arena foyer with warm up at 5.45pm and 1st race at 6pm.

The skaters from Erina have enjoyed traveling to both Canterbury and Sydney Ice Arena to attend competitions and we look forward to seeing skaters from both venues on the weekend! Hope to see you all there.

Endurance Plate 08

Last Saturday (14th of June), the Sydney Vikings ISSC hosted IRNSW's first competition of the season. The open division was taken out by Ben Southie in a fairly dominant performance.

We're just wild about Harry!

Great to see Harry Spragg back on the ice. Harry will be well known to those whose involvement with short track in this country (and in Great Britain) stretches into the deep dark past.

Harry was game enough to jump in the deep end - getting involved in most of our activities including accelerations and even some relay!

Mike O'Dea from England sent me a quick email about his new website that has some interesting old video of short track in England in the 70's.

Follow this link www.speed-skating.co.uk and open the 'archives' page. The video is in Quicktime and takes a little time to load, but for all you youngsters (and young at heart) out there, hopefully it will be an interesting look at how far the sport has evolved in a reasonably short time.

Mike informs me that he has video of the 1978 World Short Track Championships (first ever) which he is in the process of converting and editing, and which he intends to post on his site when done.

Australian Age Divisions

I have decided to post this as we are leading into our domestic season. We have the first major event here in NSW in a couple of weeks. The Endurance Plate is being held at Sydney Ice Arena on June 14th, followed exactly a fortnight later by the 1st of 3 Sprint Cups, the first of which being on my home turf at Erina Ice Arena.

Below is a snapshot of the Australian age divisions. This should help you all along the way when filling in those entry forms. We can't wait for the Endurance Plate and the rest of the domestic season to kick off. Bring it on!
