The Carbert Report - Blogs, Short Track's Unofficial Newspaper

Over the past few years, the Short Track community has increased it’s presence in cyberspace through the form of blogs. With such dedicated and intelligent fans worldwide, it’s no surprise that there are a some great blogs out there. These blogs provide current news stories, links to media reports, and some excellent photography! I think of these blogs as my Short Track newspaper, giving a great taste of Short Track worldwide. As a result of browsing these blogs, I find I know my stuff a lot better when watching a World Cup, or reading the results off of CyberScoreboard. I hope you find these sites as helpful, and fun to read as I have.

OhnoZone:

I had my first blog experience on OhnoZone, while searching for the results of the Canadian Olympic Team Trials, to my surprise this American based blog had current results from the Canadian competition! OhnoZone is a fan based site for Apolo Ohno, the Olympic medallist and TV-Star. But OhnoZone provides excellent coverage of North American Short Track, with an added bonus of great photos of World Cup events, as many visitors are in attendance.

Yup, A blog en français! A short trip to Google’s web page translator can fix all your language barrier problems, aside from a few grammatical glitches. This IS the site for Short Track in Canada, and since a good number of Canadian skaters speak French, the blog is hence written in the language of love. Look here to find updates not only focusing around Canadians, especially when a World Cup rolls around count on stories, photos, and links to all sorts of media from the event. Also, bio’s of coaches and skaters, and galleries of Canadian training camps and facilities.

ShortTrack.com:

No, this is not a blog, but rather a forum for discussion of events, equipment, and facilities with members from around the world. This site doesn’t have a great deal of new posts, but has almost 200 discussion topics in the banks from the past few years.

These are primarily blogs from North America, and although they tend to focus on local events, they provide a good sense of world knowledge about current events in the Short Track community. With the success of newer blogs such as ShortTrackAustralia (over 5500 visitors since September!) I am sure more and more blogs will pop up in the near future, bringing an amazing international fan base together as we watch lycra suits speed around in an all too familiar counter-clockwise direction.
